Ethical and Cultural Club Night?
7th October, 2009
News of this event has just reached us, and it sounds very intriguing. We can't make it, but if anyone else does we'd love to hear some feedback...
"Club nights that allow you to have fun whilst donating money to charity sound like an urban myth – but they now exist in the form of ‘Last Rolo’. A series of cultural club nights fusing fabulous art and music, epitomising the ultimate ‘win-win’ concept.
Last Rolo combines acoustic music, DJ and a private view for the ultimate in culture clubbing with a conscience. Set in the Acquire Space, a Battersea Gallery, London, that recently opened to rave reviews, the monthly events are a platform for talented young musicians and artists. Last Rolo provides a free showcasing opportunity in a central London Gallery and performance space. All the artwork is affordably priced, with most of the pieces at £60.
The events are a fundraising initiative launched by Voces Cantabiles Music employee, Louise Hughes. “Being passionate about music and art, I wanted to inspire others to experience both art forms together in a relaxing and fun atmosphere. Being able to give back to society at the same time as having fun is really the icing on the cake.”
Voces Cantabiles Music (VCM) is a charity that was launched in 2004 to inspire people through music. The charity produces world-class performance ensembles and delivers nationwide education initiatives aimed at engaging children in creative activities. All proceeds from the Last Rolo events will go to VCM to support their work in both these areas. The person who donates the most on the night will receive a genuine golden Last Rolo.
The 16th October marks the Last Rolo Launch Night, with artists Anna-Louise Felstead, Edd Horder and Astrid Harrisson confirmed for the private view from 6.30-8.30pm. Live jazz performers will be entertaining from 8.30-9pm and Dingle Yandell will be DJ from 9-11pm. Entry is free with a suggested donation on exit and beers will be £3. The artwork will remain on the walls until 5pm on the 17th October, during which time the gallery is open for members of the public to view the artwork free of charge."
